Plain-Language Guide

How Insurance Works With Chiropractic Care

Every insurance plan uses the same four building blocks. Understanding these helps you know exactly what to expect before your first visit.

🎯

Deductible

The amount you pay out of pocket before your insurance begins covering any costs. Once you meet your deductible, your plan starts sharing the cost.

Example: $500 deductible — you pay the first $500 of covered services each year
💳

Copayment (Copay)

A fixed dollar amount you pay for each visit, regardless of what the full cost is. Copays are typically the same every visit once your deductible is met.

Example: $25 copay per chiropractic visit
📊

Coinsurance

A percentage of the cost you pay after your deductible is met. Your insurance pays the remainder. Common in plans that don't use flat copays.

Example: You pay 20%, insurance pays 80% after deductible
🔒

Out-of-Pocket Maximum

The most you'll ever pay in a single plan year. Once you hit this cap, your insurance covers 100% of covered services for the rest of the year.

Example: $3,000 max — after that, insurance covers everything
💡

Every insurance plan is different — even plans from the same insurer can vary significantly. Let us verify yours before your first visit so you know exactly what to expect. Call (978) 352-4200 or bring your insurance card to your first appointment.

Be Prepared

Before Your First Visit

A little preparation goes a long way. Here's what to have ready before your first appointment to make benefits verification and check-in as smooth as possible.

Have Your Insurance Card Handy

We'll need your member ID, group number, and insurer's phone number to verify your benefits. A photo of both sides of your card works perfectly.

Call Us Ahead of Time

If you'd like to know your costs before you come in, call (978) 352-4200 and we'll verify your benefits in advance — no charge.

Understand Your Plan Basics

Knowing your deductible and whether you have a copay or coinsurance helps you make confident decisions. We'll explain everything in plain language.

Check for a Referral Requirement

Most PPO plans don't require a referral. Some HMO plans might. We'll let you know if yours does — and help you navigate it if needed.

No Insurance? No Problem.

We believe everyone deserves access to great chiropractic care. If you don't have insurance — or your plan doesn't cover chiropractic — we offer straightforward, affordable options.

Affordable self-pay rates for all services
FSA (Flexible Spending Account) accepted
HSA (Health Savings Account) accepted
2026 Care Plan memberships available
Transparent pricing — no hidden fees
Common Questions

Insurance & Chiropractic FAQ

Still have questions? Call us at (978) 352-4200 — we're happy to help.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
In most cases, no — especially with PPO plans. Some HMO plans may require a referral from your primary care physician. Call us with your plan details and we'll let you know right away. Most patients can book directly without any referral needed.
What chiropractic services does insurance typically cover?
Chiropractic adjustments (spinal manipulation) are covered by most plans when medically necessary. Additional therapies such as corrective exercises or orthotics may vary by plan. We'll clarify exactly what's covered under your specific policy before treatment begins.
Does Medicare cover chiropractic care?
Yes. Original Medicare (Part B) covers manual manipulation of the spine when it's medically necessary to correct a subluxation. Medicare does not typically cover other chiropractic services like X-rays or massage. We accept Medicare at both our Georgetown and Taunton offices.
Will insurance cover wellness or maintenance care?
Most insurance plans only cover care aimed at treating a specific condition — not ongoing wellness or preventive maintenance visits. If you'd like to continue care after your condition improves, we'll discuss self-pay rates or our 2026 Care Plan membership options, which are very affordable.
How do I check my chiropractic benefits?
You can call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask specifically about chiropractic benefits, your deductible status, copay or coinsurance, and any visit limits. Alternatively, call our office at (978) 352-4200 and we'll do it for you — free of charge.
Can I use my FSA or HSA for chiropractic care?
Yes. Chiropractic care is an eligible expense for both Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA). This is a great option if you've met your deductible or are paying self-pay rates — it effectively gives you a tax discount on every visit.
