Fall is one of the best times of year — cooler air, changing leaves, the season shifting. It is also when ragweed and mold peak, and for a lot of people that means the return of itchy eyes, a runny nose, and that foggy, run-down feeling. If that is you, there is a natural option worth knowing about.

It is called Antronex, from Standard Process, and it is one of my favorite supplements for supporting the body's allergy response. I have used it in the office since 2009, and many patients notice relief quickly — sometimes within about 20 minutes.

A Bit of History: The Yakriton Story

Antronex has a genuinely interesting backstory that goes back nearly a century.

• The discovery (1926). A compound called Yakriton was first identified and isolated in 1926 by Japanese researcher Professor Akira Sato and his team at Tohoku Imperial University in Sendai, Japan.
• The concept. Sato described Yakriton as a fat-soluble "detoxifying hormone of the liver." Through the 1920s, '30s, and '40s, his department published close to 100 papers exploring how this liver extract helped the body handle various compounds.
• Coming west (1953). Dr. Royal Lee, the founder of Standard Process, took interest in the Japanese research and, in 1953, created a whole-food bovine liver extract based on the concept. He called it Antronex — and it is still made today.

How It Works Differently

Conventional antihistamines like Allegra and Zyrtec work by blocking histamine receptors — they interrupt the signal after your body has already reacted. Antronex takes a different route. As a whole-food liver extract, it is traditionally used to support the body's own natural handling of histamine, working with your system rather than switching a signal off.

It is not a replacement for prescribed treatment, and it is not an emergency medication. If you rely on medication for significant allergies, keep taking it and talk with your provider before changing anything. But as a gentle, natural option — on its own for milder seasons, or as something to discuss alongside your usual routine — it is one I reach for often.

The Cost Difference

This is where a lot of patients are surprised. Antronex is very affordable, especially compared to a daily brand-name antihistamine.

• $34.99 for 180 tablets in our supplement store
• Most people need only 1 tablet a day, up to a maximum of 4 in really severe cases
• At one a day, a single bottle lasts about six months

That works out to just pennies a day for most people — a small cost for real seasonal comfort.
